The number of people purchasing dental plans for themselves and their families (rather than getting a plan through an employer) is steadily increasing, and this trend will likely continue. To keep insured patients coming to you, we’re using information gathered from surveys, focus groups and other research to help us develop the next generation of individual plans.

We’re finding that patients want plans to include features such as customizable benefits, maximums that roll over from year to year, reward programs and cosmetic services.

And, patients want the wide choice that comes with having large dentist networks. Enrollees have told us that network size is important because it minimizes the need to change dentists and in-network dentists help keep their dental care affordable. An emerging trend we are seeing is a willingness to change dentists if costs will be significantly reduced. In a national survey Delta Dental Plans Association conducted in 2014, nearly 60% of survey respondents were very or somewhat likely to change dentists if it could reduce their out-of-pocket expenses by 20%. (This online study of more than 15,000 adults was conducted on Delta Dental’s behalf by Kelton Global, a leading global research agency.)

As dental plans adapt to patients’ changing needs, it’s good to know that our partnership with dentists is highly valued. We’re proud to work together with you to achieve our shared mission: to increase access to dental care for more people in our communities.
